A Reflection
Today, I’m celebrating my tenth consecutive week of publishing this newsletter. As I’ve mentioned in previous emails, my primary goal for this year is to build consistency in all areas of my life.
In a session with my coach the other week, I was asked what had felt easy the past few weeks and what felt challenging. I responded that publishing this newsletter has felt like a win. She asked me what factors had contributed to my being able to maintain the flow and regularity, to which I responded, “I’m not allowing myself to start the weekend unless it’s done.”
It sounds so simple, but being consistent with writing and publishing newsletters has been a “growing edge” of mine for a long time. I don’t know exactly what shifted in me to stop finding ways to rationalize my way out of this task so far other than that I’ve finally gotten tired of the excuses and patterns I’ve created around this activity.

It’s 7pm on Friday as I finish writing this weeks’ issue. And I know I won’t be happy if I allow myself to forgo publishing this week.
I truly believe that change happens when you’re ready for it. There are many different practices (like this or this) one can implement to develop new habits. But those practices won’t be as effective until you want something bad enough.
One Piece of Business Advice
Leaders I work with often bring up challenges they experience guiding their teams to achieve business results.
I explain that business results, the leaders own interpersonal behaviours, and the team interactions are interconnected and have a significant impact on the overall success of an organization.
Next time you’re coming up against a challenge with someone on your team, start by clarifying what the business goal you’re collectively working towards.
Then, take a look inward and ask yourself what behaviours are required of YOU in order to effectively interact with and support your team (who you need to BE.)
Finally, ask yourself what you need from the team to get the business result you’ve identified. What ineffective patterns might be at play and how might you transform the interactions between you and your team? What do you need from them?
You’ll be surprised by how this enhances your relationship with your team!
One Mastery Tip
I came across a video of Matthew McConaughey earlier in the week. In it, he talks about the power of journalling. He was more specifically speaking to men, but the message is relevant for anyone.
I’ve had an on-again, off-again relationship with journalling for most of my life. Those times where I felt in flow with my journalling practice were times where some of my best ideas were unlocked. They were also times where I experienced the most growth.
If you’ve ever wondered about journalling (be it with a pen and paper, or typing it out in a private note) here are some of my favourite journalling resources. And I’ve tried them all :-)
